Song of Death at the End of Suffering and at a Moment of Happiness

Our days will reach the shore…
Days of endless suffering;
On today’s sick, worn out faces,
No sign of fortune’s darkness will remain.

The soul’s destination will take form.
Spring is behind a moment
As short as life, as sweet as love.
That is when we will forget life

And open the glowing doors of
Our promised heaven,
Find the fountain of light
Of our loveliest, final land.

Sunshine will be reflected on each face we see
And girls, flower in their hands,
Will bring eternal spring
To our life anew.

Orhan Veli (1914-1950). Uzun Bir Istırabın Sonunda Ve Bir Saadet Anında Gelecek Ölümün Türküsü. Translated from the Turkish.
