The Life of Free Spirits

Fate sometimes is like a violent storm, powerful;
Look at the dark horizon as mountains do.
Tormentors are fellow humans sometimes;
Notice but disregard! Let it be!

In a devout life, we see a compassionate trust in faith
And, from afar, Jesus on the cross.
The boundless calm of a lion that yawns
Is the free spirits’ indifference to misfortunes.

Yahya Kemal Beyatlı (1884-1958). Rindlerin Hayatı. Translated from the Turkish.
