Roads and Sky

Above, below each other,
Within me, sky and roads.

Sky, layers of blueness,
Roads, columns of cypress trees.

The roads, where do they go,
And the sky, what does it think?

The sky has a secret,
The roads are seeking it.

In water shimmers the sky,
In water end the roads.

The face of the sky, on the roads,
The face of the roads, in the sky,

On these roads, our trace,
In these skies, our secret.

Roads, take me!
Skies, raise me!

Necip Fazıl Kısakürek (1904-1983). Yollar ve Gökler. Translated from the Turkish.
