Ideology

Do not expect them all to come;
One of them will not.

For you not to become complacent,
For you to be without fear,
For you to reflect..

For you to be self-sufficient..
For you not to flee from yourself,
Where others would. .

As if those who come will not go..
Births, deaths,
For you to know.

To tell what you know,
You must learn not to know.
To stay whole.

Do not expect them all to come,
So that you can be.
One of them will not come,
For you to be.

Özdemir Asaf (1923-1981). Düşüngü. Translated from the Turkish.
