For Mortal Beings

You shall all die!
Go to the heavens with no shame!
Your souls shall desert you!
You shall be buried underground covered with earth.

Worms, insects, maggots
Will gleefully pounce on you.
Your hands will be empty,
No one will look at your picture.

Visions of women you loved
Will disperse like smoke.
Reward, fame, compassion
Will not come your way.

Eyes you have no more!
You shall not see the world!
No more to touch, to laugh, to talk,
In floods, no longer existing, you will float.

Slowly you shall rot.

Cahit Külebi (1917-1997). Ölümlü İnsanlar İçin. Translated from the Turkish
