Neither in Time

Neither in time,
Nor am I entirely outside time.
Inside a moment long, single
And indivisible.

The colour of a strange dream,
Every figure looks numb.
A feather in the wind even
Not as light as I.

My head grinding silence,
A ceaseless mill.
My soul contented;
A dervish, no cloak, no fleece.

Rooted inside me,
A world I feel made of ivy.
A light, blue, entirely blue,
I swim through.

Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar (1901-1962). Ne İçindeyim Zamanın. Translated from the Turkish.
