Fall

Plants have dried up
No more fresh growth
In stagnant water
Lie dead leaves.

Everyone is back from the high pastures
Sunset has reached the mountains
The lowlands are wider
The rocks are harder.

My head in my arms
Sorrow a heavy burden
Settling on my eyes
Fall’s dew drops.

Kemalettin Kamu (1901-1948). Güz. Translated from the Turkish.
